In medicine, it’s easy to get so into serving your community that you forget to have a cushioned bottom line. It’s understandable. After all, most doctors got into medicine for one of two reasons: money or helping people. Chances are, if you’re a functional medicine practitioner, you fall into the second category, but that doesn’t mean you can’t earn a good living!

What it comes down to, though, is making sure that you have a business strategy and medical practice branding strategy rather than simply providing a service. One secret to success is ensuring you’re both confident and competent. If you’re competent, there’s no good reason not to be charging your worth. Yes, you want to serve your community, but you also have to put food on the table. You’re worth it.

Daily Themes

Every day, people surround themselves with four core themes. These themes are what you are spending the majority of your time on throughout the day. Take a moment to think about what most of your time is spent on. Are you being productive the whole day or spending half the day getting distracted by the television? Are you focusing on what you love or spending time on tasks you hate? Most people spend a small portion of their day in their zone of genius, focusing instead on tasks they dislike and could easily delegate to people who may like the project a whole lot more. If you find yourself spending too much time on the tasks you don’t like, you’re never going to reach your full potential. Burnout will happen faster, and you will want to give up. But, if you spend time doing the thing you love and delegate those mundane tasks to someone else, you will find yourself enjoying the journey to the top so much more.
