The New Age of Medicine
Dr. Jack Wolfson a.k.a “The Paleo Cardiologist” is a board-certified cardiologist who uses nutrition, lifestyle changes, and supplements to prevent and treat disease. Recently, he launched a new training academy for functional medicine providers and other healthcare professionals from all walks of life. In this episode of The FM Shift, Dr. Wolfson joins us to share his journey and talk about the fundamental framework of his curriculum. He shares insights to help us make a difference in the world by taking it back from the pharmaceutical companies and taking control of our health.
Many of the functional medicine providers I know have designed their practices around treating very specific ailments and diseases. If you are familiar with the podcast, you know that I am a niche builder as well. I built my practice to treat diseases like diabetes, thyroid, cognitive decline, etc., because it is the best way to scale my business and communicate a clear message to my audience. But some areas are more oversaturated with providers than others. I’ve always thought that cardiovascular health has been a largely untapped niche in the functional medicine field. With the proper training behind you, there is a lot of opportunity for growth.
Treat the Root Cause
Even at the top of our field, there are not many functional medicine providers looking at cardiovascular disease in general. For example, hypertension affects more than 75% of Americans. Blood pressure medications are some of the most widely prescribed in the world. And just like any disease that we put a label to, hypertension has a cause. Within the root cause lies the solution, and pharmaceuticals are not the answer. Dr. Wolfson’s clinic is focused on finding the root cause of these diseases so his students can create long term change.
